What to expect from Elementa
Our Approach
Beginning therapy can feel like a significant step. You may have a clear idea of what you would like support with, or simply a sense that something does not feel quite right and would benefit from further exploration.
At Elementa, we believe effective therapy begins with understanding. Our role is not to fit you into a particular model or approach, but to develop a meaningful understanding of your experiences, circumstances and goals. From there, we can work together to identify the support that is most likely to be helpful.
Common reasons adults may seek support
Below are some examples of experiences that may resonate with people who are considering therapy. They are intended as a guide rather than a fixed list. If what you are finding difficult does not fit neatly into one of these statements, that does not necessarily mean we would not be able to support you.
If you are unsure, you are welcome to get in touch.
I feel anxious, overwhelmed or constantly under pressure
I have been feeling low, disconnected or no longer like myself
I have experienced something difficult or traumatic that continues to affect me
I find myself repeating unhelpful patterns in relationships
I struggle with confidence, self-criticism or self-worth
I feel stuck and unsure what needs to change
I find it difficult to understand or manage my emotions
I am navigating a significant life change, loss or transition
I have received an ADHD or autism diagnosis and would like support in understanding what this means for me
I am finding it difficult to navigate challenges in my role as a parent
I would like support in understanding and responding to my child's emotional, behavioural or neurodevelopmental needs
I would like a deeper understanding of myself and the experiences that have shaped me
Therapeutic Approaches
At Elementa, we draw on a range of evidence-based therapies. Rather than applying a single approach to every client, we consider which ideas, strategies and interventions are most likely to be helpful for your particular circumstances and goals.
During the assessment process, we take time to develop a shared understanding of your experiences and discuss the therapeutic approaches that may best support the changes you would like to make. Some people come to therapy with a specific preference, while others prefer guidance in deciding what may be most appropriate.
Therapeutic approaches may change throughout the process depending on need.
Our work may draw on the following approaches:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT)
Systemic Family Therapy
